The Results of Wiki Backlinks?

The results of these types of backlinks has been fantastic.  I was somewhat suprised at first because the majority of these are nofollow links, but as many of us have found in the past, nofollow backlinks to increase search engine rankings.  Many of the wikis I have had backlinks built on are on high page rank domains, a mix of low to high pr.

Since the results of the test were very positive I decided to purchase my own Wiki software and have been running it for a couple days.  I spent nearly $200 on Fiverr.com jobs on these Wiki backlinks tests so I figured it would be best to get my own link building software in order to do these myself.

High Indexing Rate

I don’t know what the indexing rate would be if I left them alone to get crawled by Google so I can only give you the indexing rates of what I have found using Nuclear Link Indexer.

Here are the stats from 1 job -

4,047 wiki backlinks submitted to NLI on 3/9/2012

3/29/12 – 1,819 links indexed or 44.5% indexed in only 3 weeks with 2,200 still in progress.  So I expect the indexing rate to be well over 50%.

On jobs I submitted a week ago I am seeing about a 30-35% indexing rate.  That’s quite good if you ask me.

I won’t divulge the keyword in this example but it is a Youtube that is ranking #3 for a high competition term.  Not bad for a Fiverr.com job and some indexing.

So if you were looking for a new place to get backlinks since the brutal blog deindexing massacre of Google you should give Wiki links a try.  Google will eventually devalue wiki links, but hey, they work now so use Wiki backlinks while you can!

Google Is Joining Blog Networks – Beware

In the last 2 months Google has joined several of the most effective and popular blog networks so that they could map out all the domains and then deindex them.  If you belong to any networks you may want to check and see if the domains that you are getting backlinks from are actually still indexed.  The future of blog networks is now going to have to go underground, getting backlinks from blogs will be like the days of prohibition and you’ll need an insider to get you in.  Say hello to the blog network speakeasy’s.

All I can say right now is if a network is advertising, sending emails for launches, or anything that allows any Tom, Dick, or Harry to join then it is at risk of being immediately deindexed by Google.

Where Can You Get Quality Backlinks Now?

Search engine optimization through link building has just become a lot more expensive.  It’s going to be more important than ever to focus on high quality sites and conversions.  Wasting traffic at ineffective offers is no longer an option because free website traffic just became a much more precious commodity that is harder to get.  Google wants you to use their PPC and Adwords modules so that you can help them line their pockets with more gold instead of your own.

The Changes Aren’t Over

You’ll need to fast forward a bit to see where this is going.  At first glance you might think that Google is just improving the results in search, but its not the case.  They are about to give the entire search engine a giant refresh by how they show results.  They will no longer just show links, but will show the actual content and then cite the source.  This will be surrounded with carefully mapped out ads to increase their revenue.  The way these ads are placed has been painstakingly mapped out and tested and split tested to see which way gives them the most clicks and the content owners the least.

So what about your high quality content?  It will be used to draw people into the search and Google will try to answer their question right then and there with no need for them to visit someones page – unless it is one of the carefully placed ads that will draw them revenue.  So don’t worry, they are going to finding a great use for your content.  Did you ever think about when written content on the web becomes public domain?  How about all that deindexed content on websites Google threw out of the index?  They didn’t throw the content out, they still have it cached in their massive evil brain.

Follow The Money

When you see the hundreds of millions of dollars that were being spent on SEO services start going to Google services you will then understand why these changes are being made so aggressively.  The blog deindexing is just a small part of the major plan and that plan doesn’t really include the little guy unless its to get you to spend money on them rather than using a cheap blog network to get yourself some rankings in your niche to make a few extra bucks for your family.

What Can you Do Now?

Just because things just got tougher doesn’t mean you should roll over and let Google kick you on the ground.  As we say in the Marines “Improvise, Adapt, Overcome!!!!” – actually we never said that in my Marine Infantry platoon but I do remember the Marines in Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood saying it and I’ve always held that saying close to my chest.

If you lost rankings and are losing money just remember that there are still many people still making money.  Whoever adapts and changes the quickest will actually just find an opportunity within this.  There is always opportunity when major changes come.

Why Are Networks Being Deindexed?

I can tell you that SEO Elite Linkvine, SEONitro, and Backlinkbuddy are 90% deindexed because I had VIP accounts on all of them so I had access to the data and would regularly check domains to see if they were still viable.  What really troubles me is the lack of communication from these networks because they are still posting away on dead domains and taking money from their customers.

I actually had a chance to speak with Dori Friend a couple weeks ago at Yanik Silvers Underground in Washington and she said they were making some big changes and she offered me 2 months of my memberships for free – but as of right now I am not using them because there is no point posting to a bunch of deindexed websites.

There were way too many websites packed on each IP address with other quality issues like limitless outbound links and posts per day.  Before just saying how that isn’t a smart way to build a network let’s first realize that it has worked just find up until March 2012.  Most networks would experience a 10% deindexing rate which was normal, so in order to keep costs down and revenue higher it made sense to continue doing what was working.  Finding a good SEO Host is nearly impossible and its expensive to run these networks so I know that noone was really proactively looking at trying to expand worldwide to as many IPs as possible while limiting clients and outbound links.  It gets very expensive very fast to run these networks.

Why Does Google Care About Us Renegade Link Builders?

With Googles heavy push on deindexing the costs associated with SEO and link building have just went up and it honestly it starts tipping the scales in favor of PPC which is exactly what they are going for.  Google is looking to increase their ad revenue, it’s their business model of course.  You can always go over to SEOmoz and see how the white strategy is working for them.  It’s actually not working which is why I encourage you to go read the article I just linked to.

Should we all throw in the towel and start up our Google Adwords campaigns?  It really depends on your keywords and how well your website converts into leads and sales.  There is no black and white answer for that.  Everyone has such different metrics when it comes to their websites and revenue that for some they are going to continue doing adds and pay the extra costs of increasing prices within SEO.

Basic SEO and Link Building Is Still Working

I have spotted some competitors that have risen in the rankings very quickly using home page backlinks networks, so there are still networks out there that are very powerful and effective at raising rankings but it is only a matter of time before Google deindexes those networks.

Keep building quality links and you will continue to rise in the search engine rankings.  I would focus a lot on social networks for backlinks and getting a lot of social signals from people sharing your content.  If you haven’t started video marketing I would encourage you to do so.  It’s quick and easy to get a Youtube video ranking and if you don’t like making a video then do what I did and have a video made on Fiverr.com.  Here is a video I had done for $5 on how to get backlinks.

2) If you do not want to write an article or have a lower budget and can’t pay to outsource it then the other option is you can pick blogs between PR1-PR5 that are relevant to your niche and leave a comment on the post.  The comments are all Dofollow, autoapproved, and can be written by you.  Typically you will be the only comment on the entire page so your link will get the most juice and it will have a positive effect on rankings.

Chances are you’ll be able to find several articles that are already in the system with your keywords so all you need to do is search and place your link.

High Quality Backlinks – Definition

If you look in the Websters dictionary for the definition of high quality backlinks you are not going to find it.  In fact, you aren’t going to find the term backlinks either.  So that brings me to the answer of the first question.  When does a backlink go from being just a backlink, to becoming a quality backlink?

Quality Backlinks Criteria

Well first of all this is a list of everything that I deem makes a backlink a quality backlink.  Some people may disagree on some of these points and I don’t really care because I bet I could outrank them on any search term if it came down to a contest.  These points aren’t from some unproven theory I have concocted, this comes down from testing millions of different types of backlinks to hundreds of sites.  I then take the data and analyze it like no one ever has.  My data has given me these conclusions on what makes a high quality backlink.  I’ll start with the very basics and then I’ll move to more advanced factors that you can implement.

1) Quality backlinks come from domains with page rank – the higher the better

Now notice that I wrote they should come from domains with high pagerank, not necessarily a page itself with PR.  I rather get 5 contextual backlinks from 5 PR9 domains rather than 5 backlinks from a couple of PR2 pages on PR2 domains.  I’ll explain more on that later but to see the power of this you can read about this profile link wheel that put a client to #3 in the search engines just by giving them 5 direct backlinks from PR9 domains.  Trust me, I have proof of concept from actual proof of rankings.

2) Contextual Backlinks are much higher quality

Next on the list talk about the difference between a plain old backlink and a contextual backlink.  Here is the difference.  A contextual backlink is the HTML anchor text surrounded by other words and text.  I have found the profile links can still be very powerful as long as you are surrounding them with relevant text, and then of course forcing the indexation by building links to your links – yes, it is absolutely tiresome but a quick way to build links to links and force the indexation is with Backlink Energizer.

As if it wasn’t enough just to build backlinks, now you’re being told to build backlinks to those backlinks.  Sounds like some kind of pyramid scam concocted by SEO professionals and link builders to sell even more links, but its unfortunately true and I don’t have time to explain all the reasons on why it works in this post.

When you are posting a link on a website make sure you put relevant text around your backlink.  Look for some of the related text that someone may find on a search for that keyword.  Google knows with its indexing algorithm that a link about a particular topic should have certain words related to that topic somewhere in the body of that text.  The algorithm is quite complex when it comes to link valuations so keep that in mind when you are burying your links into articles that are unrelated.  If you do place links into PLR articles on a topic unrelated to your link just make sure to write a sentence that makes sense and includes some of that relevant content.  Trust me, you won’t have to build nearly as many links when you build links from related content.

3) Link to Text Ratio effects the quality of a backlink

It’s important to have plenty of real quality content going along with each link to give it a higher valuation in the search engine algorithm.  I like to go with a ratio of about 1 link for every 150 to 200 words.  So if I’m submitting a short article of only 200 words I’ll usually only put 1 link in it.  If I want to place a couple of links I usually go with a 400 to 500 word article and always place them in the body of the article when possible, like in blogs.  Many article directories require it in the resource box at the bottom but realize these are getting a lower link valuation.  This is why I have found time and time again that blog networks and free blogging sites are superior for creating quality backlinks.

4) Quality Links Are in Content (not in footers and sidebars – AKA “the gutters”)

Do blogroll links help search engine rankings?  Yes they do but not nearly like they used to even just a year ago.  Links within the footers and sidebars are valued differently by the Google algorithm.  A link on homepage within the context of an article will give you much more value than a blogroll link.

Don’t be fooled by these guys selling homepage links though that try to say it’s ok for them to put 100 links in the homepage article.  If your link is one of the first ones in the article you will get a good amount of the value but if your link is all the way down the page as one of the last backlinks you won’t get much out of it.  There are so many things wrong with how homepage links are being marketed that it makes me mad.  I just wrote in item #3 that link to text ratio is important.  A page with 100 links on it will have very low valued links opposed to a page with only 1 or 2 links.

The only reason I mentioned homepage links is because that is what some people selling links did as an answer to replace blogroll links when those were devalued.  If you can get a homepage link where there are only a couple of links then that will be a very high quality backlink.

5) Quality BackLinks Come from a Page of Relevance

Google has an entire algorithm to score a page for the onsite SEO and I have determined that this algorithm is very similar when scoring a backlink.  If Google is scoring a page to rank very high for a particular keyword, doesn’t it make sense that a backlink about that keyword would have a higher value than coming from an unrelated page?  Yes it does.  I know some would argue this point with the ever stupid comment “a link is a link”, but I decided to not be ever stupid and tested backlinks from pages of relevance.

Whenever a backlink was coming from a page where the keyword was in the title of the post, in the URL of the page, and mentioned in the article it was very apparent that these backlinks received much more value.  This is a value that you cannot score by just looking at page rank, this is a value that Google creates that does take page rank into consideration but is also easily able to tell that the page itself has to do with that backlink.

Google doesn’t want you to spam the internet with thousands of articles about “dog training” while you insert your backlink about “make money online”.  It happens everyday because people don’t write content and they use PLR articles on whatever topic they can get their hands on and just throw their link in there.  Spend the extra time writing quality articles to submit to quality sites and you will end up with something I like to call quality backlinks.
